Features of Renshinkan Karate-Do

The features of Renshinkan Karate is highly completed Kumite techniques.

Like the proverb goes “ Flexibility is stronger than stiffness”, this concept is snugly fitted to the Kumite of Renshinkan.
Particularly, the round kick was originally created by Renshinkan.
This round kick has been caught on by many other Karate styles along with the fame of Renshinkan.
The sophisticated techniques such as “Han-tobi-sokutoh(half-jump and sword foot kick)”,,”Ushiro-mawashi-geri(the back round kick)”,”Renzoku-mawashi-geri(continuous round kick)”,”Nidan-kaiten-geri(double round kick)”,”Sokutoh-kunoji-geri(jumping and sword foot kick)”,”Rasen-shutoh-uchi(spiral fist attack)”,”Gyakufuh-geri(against wind and sword foot kick)”, all of which are said to be the ultimate and indefensible Waza techniques.
These technics are based on the 7 Kata of fundamental Renshinkan’s “Seiryu-shichiho”
  • Karate begins and ends with Kata.

Point.1

Point.1 kata Karate begins and ends with Kata.

We give lessons to students putting on much focus on practicing Kata.
You must always visualize virtual enemies when you do it.
In the first stage, it’s important to acquire the basic Waza and proper postures, but at the same time, you are asked to understand the meanings and features of various technics used in Kata. Then you will achieve what’s needed in the physical movement of Karate that will naturally allow you to apply it to the phase of Kumite.
That involves the dignity and beaty in every action you perform. You will find yourself getting refined and to have accumulated technically advanced skills in due course.
In Renshinkan, there are 7 Kata what’s known as “Seiryu-Shichiho” that involves “Seisan”, ”Ananku”, “Wanshu”, “Chinto”, “Gojuh-shiho”, “Bassai”, and “Kushanku”.

Point.2 Yakusoku-Kumite Acquire the unique body movement of Shorinjiryu Karate.

Yakusoku-Kumite is performed by two contenders, one performs an attacker, other a defender.
So they practice using the pre-established attacking Waza and the defending Waza by judging instantly and do it alternatively.
This means that the attacker tries to strike home or “Kyusho” and the defender shakes it off or fends it off at the very moment just before being hit. While shaking off, the defender has already shifted into the attacking movement.
By repeating these Waza alternatively, you will be able to achieve the universal techniques and movements of the secret how Renshinkan Karate works.
There are 37 basic techniques in the Shodan or “First Dan” of the Yakusoku-Kumite. For students of higher Dan grades, they include Yakusoku-Kumite-Nidan, manipulating sword, Zahou, and all that.

Point.3

Point.3 Kumite(Matches) Respect for human life and clarity of the criteria for judgment.
Renshinkan represents Kumite that uses protective gears or “Bogu”.

Kumite matches in Renshinkan place much emphasis on both ensuring the safety and clarifying the victory-or-defeat judgement. This is why we use protective gears in our Kumite matches.
There are two styles of Kumite matches in Karate, full contact and non-full contact “Sundome”. There are pros and cons, however, it’s obvious that the protective gears can absorb the shock and reduce the damage dramatically.
Renshinkan’s well-known round-kick “Mawashi-geri” has such an huge destructive power, it could affect the human life.
Renshinkan pursues and upholds the path of Karate as a goal of life, it’s more than demonstrating Karate performances.
To continue Karate-Do through one’s life, it’s indispensable to ensure the safety of ourselves.
Here at Renshinkan, we don’t let young students below 15 years old to do Kumite.
Because those who are over 16 years old can start Kumite as they have practiced various Kata and Yakusoku-Kumite sense childhood.
We know that if those younger students are hard-hit at their muscles and bones, guts, head and neck, they could receive a vital impact in their body.
That’s why we place the maximum priority on human life and from the point of making a clear and accurate judgement, Renshinkan has been consistently advocating the use of protective gears for Kumite. These are one of our major philosophy.
